Billings
Montana’s largest city, Billings can boast both the comforts of a big town and a location that makes it a gateway to the rugged high country to the west and the attractions in southeastern Montana. You may want to begin your visit with a stop at the Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center (Exit 450 off Interstate 90) for a map and information about the city and the surroundings.
A “base camp” in Billings makes it easy to see most of the attractions across southern MT. Yellowstone National Park is a scenic drive S.W. over Hwy. 212 (Beartooth Highway). About half way (60 miles) is the town of Red Lodge, with excellent skiing in the winter and access to the Custer National Forest. To the south and east are the Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area, Little Bighorn Battlefield, Pompeys Pillar and the Crow Indian Reservation. |
